Anthropic announced Claude discovered a novel enzyme system with CRISPR-like repeats through frontier-model biological reasoning, landing as the top HN story (562 points). Meanwhile, Claude Code shipped cloud sessions so work persists when your laptop closes, and Qwen released Audio-3.1 with upgraded ASR, TTS, and real-time models across its audio stack.
Models
Qwen: Qwen3.8 Max Prime
Higher-throughput variant of Qwen3.8 Max with text, image, and video input, priced at $4/$12 per million tokens and a 1M-token context window.
The throughput boost and multimodal input are appealing for SalesKick where we currently route high-volume grading through GPT-6 Luna; video input could eventually replace screenshots+transcript pairs for call review.
Upstage: Solar Mini 4
Compact 35B mixture-of-experts model with 3B active parameters, 524K context, and $0.05/$0.2 per million token pricing, built for agentic use cases.
Its agentic design and low price make it a candidate for EverRaise's Vapi agents where low-latency tool calling matters more than reasoning depth; worth testing against GPT-6 Luna on structured grading tasks.
Z.ai: GLM 5.3 Prime
High-speed variant of GLM-5.3 with 1.5–2× throughput via inference acceleration, 1M-token context, priced at $2.8/$8.8 per million tokens.
Comparable pricing to GPT-6 Sol but with higher throughput claims; if the acceleration holds under load, it's a strong candidate for Mackinac's legislative retrieval where we currently pay latency overhead on large document context.
Research
LabourCrew: A Multi-Agent RAG Framework for Trustworthy Adversarial Deliberation and Statutory Reasoning over Labour Law
Multi-agent debate system for statutory QA where every claim is grounded in evidence and agents cite sources, not just relevance—treating grounding as a deliberative structure rather than a prompting convention.
Mackinac's legislative research requires citation and verifiable claims; this multi-agent adversarial structure would let us ground every answer in statute text and detect when evidence is insufficient to answer.
Learn How to Act from Your Own Interactions: On-Policy Self-Distillation for GUI Agents
On-policy self-distillation method for GUI agents that improves step-wise reasoning and long-horizon memory by learning from the agent's own successful trajectories.
Botterfly uses computer-use for desktop tasks; this training approach would let us distill successful session traces into a smaller model specialized for the BoostPanda toolchain without external labeled data.
Just-in-Time Memory: Learning to Curate Task-Adaptive Memory for LLM Agents
Agentic memory system that curates memory at read time rather than write time, deciding what's worth remembering based on the current task instead of distilling fixed artifacts after task completion.
Hermes uses Mnemosyne for memory; this read-time curation approach is closer to how we currently rank memories by relevance, and the paper's adaptive mechanism could inform how we weight importance dynamically per query.
The Capability Manifold and ML Scaling Laws
Extends scaling laws beyond predictive loss to model capabilities in reasoning, retrieval, planning, and adaptation—arguing that loss alone is insufficient to characterize downstream agentic performance.
When we evaluate models for routing decisions (wehshi review panels, grading agents), we care about task success, not perplexity; this capability-aware framing helps us pick the right model tier without over-indexing on loss benchmarks.
Releases
Node.js v22.23.3 (LTS)
LTS update with root certificates updated to NSS 3.125, Corepack 0.36.0, npm 10.9.9, ICU 78.3, OpenSSL 3.5.8, Undici 6.28.1, and SharedArrayBuffer support in napi_create_typedarray.
SalesKick backend, Pipeline services, and Chrysalis all depend on Node LTS; the OpenSSL and Undici updates patch several CVEs, and the root certificate refresh prevents TLS failures against renewed CAs.
langchain-anthropic 1.7.4
Adds Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 profile augmentations, fixes integration test cassettes, and enables mid-conversation tool changes via SystemMessage.
SalesKick grading and Mackinac retrieval use langchain-anthropic; Opus 5.5 profile support means routing to the new model works without manual config, and mid-conversation tool changes unlock cleaner multi-turn agent flows.
Langfuse v4.43.0
Adds role filtering for project/org members, annotation sidebar score creation, TypeSafe decision-model routing through OpenRouter or Vercel AI Gateway, and fixes SCIM user scoping and trace page rendering.
We instrument SalesKick and Mackinac with Langfuse; the eval router integration means we can gate high-stakes decisions through a separate model without leaving Langfuse's annotation workflow.
Hacker News
Claude discovers a novel enzyme system with CRISPR-like repeats
562 points, 584 comments. Anthropic used Claude to identify a previously unknown enzyme system through sustained reasoning over biological datasets.
Not directly applicable to engineering work, but demonstrates what frontier models can do with domain-specific reasoning when given access to structured data—relevant when clients ask what's possible with agentic research pipelines.
Claude Code reads AGENTS.md only when telemetry is on [fixed]
460 points, 261 comments. Claude Code was loading project instructions only when telemetry was enabled; bug now fixed, but thread discusses trust and observability in agentic tools.
Hermes uses AGENTS.md the same way; the thread's discussion on opt-in telemetry vs. correctness is relevant to how we instrument Botterfly's own sessions—users want visibility without surrendering data.
Jev in 25 Lines of Python
636 points, 200 comments. Step-by-step walkthrough building Jev (a moderation classifier) in 25 lines: gradient descent on synthetic examples, binary predictions from log-odds.
Jev's simplicity—no training data, just a prompt and an optimizer—makes it appealing for one-off classification tasks in Pulse collection (keeping/rejecting sources) or wehshi review triage where labeled data doesn't exist.
Gemini 3.8 text-to-speech
274 points, 124 comments. Google launched Gemini 3.8 Flash-Lite TTS and Flash TTS, their most expressive audio models, with real-time streaming and low-latency variants.
EverRaise runs voice agents on Vapi; Gemini 3.8 TTS is a new option for call synthesis if we want to move away from ElevenLabs or test Google's expressiveness claims against our current stack.

@ClaudeDevs on cloud sessions launch
Claude Code cloud sessions are out of research preview: work persists when your laptop closes. Existing Pro subscribers get $100 credit, Max gets $250.
Claude Code is one of the coding agents we delegate to; cloud sessions remove the local-machine dependency, which matters for long-running builds or when switching devices mid-task.
@Alibaba_Qwen on Qwen-Audio-3.1
Qwen released Audio-3.1: upgraded ASR, TTS, and Realtime models, plus TTS-Next for audio creation and ASR-Next for understanding. Five models, one complete audio stack, with price cuts across the board.
EverRaise's Vapi agents use ASR and TTS; Qwen's Audio-3.1 stack is a new self-hosted option if we want to move inference in-house or benchmark Qwen's real-time model against OpenAI's GPT-Live.
@NousResearch on Hermes Desktop screen streaming
Hermes Desktop now streams agent screens in real time: watch your agents drive a browser, type into a terminal, or open windows, and take over anytime to interact or hand control back.
Botterfly runs on Hermes; live screen streaming lets us observe what computer-use agents are doing without waiting for traces to land, which helps debugging long-running desktop workflows.
Releases: Python had no interpreter updates in the window. The Claude enzyme discovery and Claude Code telemetry bug both drew large HN threads worth skimming for the trust and observability discussion.
